Frequently Asked Questions
How do I maintain my sourdough starter after the workshop?
You'll receive comprehensive written instructions for maintaining your starter in Ireland's climate. Generally, we recommend refrigerating your starter and feeding weekly if baking occasionally, or keeping at room temperature with daily feedings if baking frequently. Our follow-up email support ensures your starter thrives long after the workshop.
Is it safe to work with the wood-fired ovens?
Absolutely! Safety is our priority. Before any oven work, we provide thorough safety training, heat-resistant gloves, and proper tools. Our instructors closely supervise all wood-fired activities, and we maintain strict participant limits to ensure everyone receives proper guidance. All participants must follow safety protocols, which we'll clearly communicate before and during the workshop.
What if I need to cancel my booking?
Our cancellation policy allows for a full refund with 14+ days notice before your workshop date. Cancellations 7-13 days before receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations less than 7 days before the workshop. However, we do allow you to transfer your booking to another person or to a future workshop date (subject to availability) with at least 48 hours notice.
How do you handle food allergies during workshops?
We take allergies very seriously. Please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions when booking. Our kitchen regularly handles wheat, dairy, nuts, and eggs. While we take precautions to prevent cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. For severe allergies, please contact us before booking to discuss your specific needs and whether we can safely accommodate them.
Can I replicate these techniques without a wood-fired oven at home?
Yes! While wood-fired ovens create distinctive results, we teach adaptable techniques for home ovens. You'll learn how to use Dutch ovens, baking stones, and steam methods to achieve excellent results in conventional ovens. We specifically address the differences between wood-fired and home baking, providing strategies to get the best possible results with the equipment you have available.
What makes Irish bread traditions different from others?
Irish bread traditions are distinguished by their practicality, use of soft wheat varieties, buttermilk incorporation, and soda bread heritage. Our workshops explore these distinctive elements alongside modern sourdough techniques. You'll learn how Ireland's climate affects fermentation, discover traditional Irish grains, and understand how historical baking methods evolved in response to local conditions. We pride ourselves on connecting contemporary artisanal techniques with Ireland's rich baking heritage.
